About Chris Vigneri
For Chris, photography is not just about the end result, but the entire photographic experience. “I’m really a nature lover who happens to take photographs,” explains Chris. “I love being in the great outdoors, hiking, exploring and observing. You won’t find me in animal game farms or taking pictures in bad light and then digitally manipulating them to look good. Not that there is anything wrong with either method but, it just isn’t what I am about. My passion is in the challenge of finding great subjects in great light.”
Chris spends about four weeks per year honing his craft. He enjoys getting away with his wife and daughter, father, and friends or just by himself. Some of his favorite places to photograph include Grand Teton National Park, and Mt. Rainier National Park. Nature photography is a tremendous amount of work and requires passion and dedication. Rising long before the sun for early morning shots, exploring new places throughout the day, and finally getting in long after the sun has set. “It is not for everyone, but I love it,” says Chris. “You never know what the next day will bring. I might be sitting in one place all day waiting for a moose or bear to appear or I might be hiking in the rain to photograph streams and waterfalls in the soft light.”
Quality…Chris is just as passionate about the quality of materials and the workmanship that goes into the final product. His prints are produced on a Chromira printer, one of the best printers in the world. “I would own one myself, but I decided to buy a house instead,” jokes Chris. “I pay more for my prints than just about any other photographer out there, but the Chromira gives such stunning results.”I want my customers to have the best, so they can enjoy their images for a very long time.”
Using only the finest materials, acid free mats, custom made wood frames and high quality framing hardware, Chris’s father, Vince, is responsible for all matting and framing production in his frame shop.
Chris currently uses a Hasselblad medium format camera. Although he will probably shoot both film and digital in the near future he does not yet use digital format. The camera is just a tool, be it film or digital, it is the quality in the end result that really matters. Whatever the medium, Chris keeps digital adjustments to a minimum. “I just want the end result to match what I saw, nothing more, nothing less. I still believe there needs to be truth in your art. Like I said before, it is not just about the end result but the entire photographic experience. Nature is already so beautiful, I don’t see any reason to digitally manipulate it or change it just because the technology is there. I am not against other people using this method; it’s just not for me.
Chris’s award winning work has been published in several magazines and calendars throughout his photographic career.
Chris was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. Currently, Chris resides in Forest Hill, Maryland with his wife Jeri, and beautiful daughter Nicole.
